The Socorro Independent School District will be implementing an updated districtwide Dual Language program beginning in the 2026-2027 school year.

In SISD Dual Language, students will become bilingual and biliterate in English and Spanish through rigorous instruction and multicultural experiences. Appropriate resources will be implemented to ensure students are academically, socially and linguistically successful in both English and Spanish to become globally competitive citizens.

The implementation of the updated program for the 2026-2027 school year will include the following grade levels and students:

Grade Levels

  • Pre-Kindergarten (3-year-old)

  • Pre-Kindergarten (4-year-old)

  • Kindergarten

Bilingual Students

All PK3 through kindergarten students identified as Emergent Bilingual in the registration process will be automatically placed in a Dual Language classroom.

Denials

If a student is identified as an Emergent Bilingual student, but parent/guardian denies services, the student may not participate in the Dual Language classroom.

Monolingual students

These students are primarily served in general education classrooms. If space is available in a Dual Language classroom and you are interested in your child participating, please indicate your interest on the registration form for the 2026-2027 school year.

In the Dual Language program, students will:

  • Develop high levels of language proficiency and literacy in both languages.

  • Demonstrate high levels of academic achievement

  • Develop an appreciation and understanding of diverse cultures

Why is dual language beneficial for both Spanish and English speakers?

  • Students maintain their first language while acquiring a second language

  • Rigorous instruction is provided in both languages

  • Students will become biliterate upon completion of the program

  • Students will be more marketable in the global society.
