Support Employee finalists and staff holding congratulations sign

The Socorro Independent School District is proud to recognize the outstanding finalists selected for the 2nd annual School Support Employee of the Year (SSEOY) program. These four exceptional individuals have each made significant contributions that enhance and support the district's success.

The finalists are:

  • Arturo Galindo Jr., physical education aide, Robert R. Rojas Elementary School

  • Lauren Moore, administrative specialist, Mission Early College High School

  • Karla Ruiz, instructional aide (at-risk), Salvador H. Sanchez Middle School

  • Victoria Olivas-Duron, LPAC aide, Sgt. Roberto Ituarte Elementary School

Superintendent James Vasquez and district leaders visited campuses on March 10 to surprise the finalists with the exciting news. Each finalist was presented with an award banner and a gift bag.

Galindo Jr. said he was excited to share the award with the students at Rojas Elementary.

“I know the kids appreciate everything we do for them, and it's all for them at the end of the day,” Galindo Jr. said.

Moore said she was overwhelmed to be named a finalist, especially since there are many great support employees at Mission Early College.

“It means people notice. They don't expect a lot, but they get it, and they appreciate it. I do everything I can to help them out,” Moore said.

Ruiz said she enjoys her job because she likes helping the students and teachers at Sanchez Middle School.

“I'm so happy and excited to represent Sanchez Middle School, and I can't wait to share this news with the students because they are the reason that I'm here, and they make me every day be a better person,” Ruiz said.

When Victoria Olivas-Duron walked into Ituarte Elementary that morning, she expected to administer a test to a student. Instead, she was surprised to find the principal and the superintendent waiting for her with the good news.

“It feels really good to know that the work that I'm putting in here at the castle can be showcased amongst the district and for all the other LPACs that work in the district. Everyone that serves the district really puts in the work,” Olivas-Duron said.

SISD’s SSEOY Program recognizes outstanding education support personnel for their contributions to their schools and departments. This award honors SISD employees who consistently demonstrate exceptional customer service based on the district’s commitment to delivering a positive, high-quality experience for stakeholders.

Candidates were nominated by their campuses through a democratic election process conducted by the principal or director. A committee reviewed the nominations, conducted interviews with all candidates, and selected four finalists. A committee will also choose the district’s School Support Employee of the Year from the four finalists. The winner will be announced on May 1.

Congratulations to the outstanding finalists on this well‑earned recognition and for being ALL IN for student success!
