Collage phot of eight SISD students that received 2026 Lone Star Leadership Academies

Eight outstanding students from the Socorro Independent School District spent a week during their summer vacation enhancing their leadership skills and visiting notable and historically significant sites in Texas as part of the 2026 Lone Star Leadership Academies camps.

They were among 710 Texas students who attended camps in the Dallas/Fort Worth, San Antonio/Austin, and Houston/Galveston regions, where they connected classroom learning to real-world experiences.

During the camps, students visited key sites including the Texas State Capitol, Johnson Space Center, the Alamo and the Fort Worth Stockyards, learned from industry professionals and formed friendships with other high-achieving students.

The program aims to help students develop leadership, service and mentoring experience, which supports future college, scholarship and career opportunities. Participants were nominated by educators for their leadership potential, academic achievements and involvement in school and community activities.

Congratulations to these exceptional SISD student leaders for adding a new chapter to their success!
