The Socorro Independent School District is setting the standard for academic excellence in the El Paso region. According to results released in the 2024–2025 Texas Academic Performance Report by the Texas Education Agency, Socorro ISD is the highest-scoring school district in the region based on overall STAAR and End-of-Course performance.
SISD students are not only meeting expectations — they are exceeding them across multiple subjects and grade levels. The district leads regional performance at all levels of STAAR achievement, including Approaches, Meets, and Masters, and outperforms both regional and state averages. SISD students posted top scores in reading, social studies, U.S. history and algebra I, reinforcing the district’s reputation for strong, rigorous instruction.
The district’s overall accountability rating increased to an 86, marking a three-point gain from the previous year. SISD also expanded its number of A-rated campuses from 12 to 18. Today, 90 percent of Socorro ISD’s rated campuses are recognized as either A or B campuses, with no campuses rated D or F.
“These results are proof of the incredible instruction, learning and commitment across our district,” said Socorro ISD Superintendent James Vasquez. “Our educators and students continue to write the next chapter of academic success, and we are proud to continue leading the way as the highest-scoring district in our region.”
In addition to top STAAR performance, Socorro ISD earned the TEA Postsecondary Readiness Distinction Designation, making it the largest school district in Texas to receive this honor. The distinction recognizes outstanding preparation for college, careers and military service through measures such as college-ready testing, industry certifications and dual-credit coursework. SISD also earned 162 distinction designations across campuses, with several schools receiving recognition in every eligible category.
Socorro ISD also has been recognized as a model district for educational excellence by the Council on Regional Economic Expansion and Educational Development (CREEED), which highlighted the district’s success in dual credit enrollment, early college pathways, algebra I achievement and closing performance gaps between campuses.
Among the highlights, CREEED emphasized the numerous SISD students earning associate degrees while still in high school and 100% of SISD 8th graders taking algebra I at five campuses with 84% passing at the meets level.
“Our mission at CREEED is clear and straightforward. We want to help create a more highly educated workforce to make El Paso more economically competitive,” said CREEED Data Director Manny Soto. “An important ‘it can be done’ outcome already is in the past two years almost 900 Socorro ISD students have completed an associate’s degree in high school.”
The district’s leadership extends to STEM education as well. Socorro ISD is the first district in West Texas — and one of only three nationwide — to earn the National Certificate for STEM Excellence at the district level, further underscoring its commitment to innovation and future-ready learning.
With strong outcomes from elementary through high school, Socorro ISD continues to deliver on its promise to prepare students for success in college, careers and beyond.
