Latino Literacy Night is a college awareness program designed to promote a love for culture, family, and education. Participants will read “Carlitos Story,” or “ La Historia de Carlito,” a dual language book for middle and high school students about a young man who has some big decisions to make in order to pursue his dreams. Participants will also receive information on college and career readiness.

The Feb. 14 event will include guest speakers Bobby Bone, brand ambassador for Charlie Clark Nissan El Paso. Oscar Lopez, a member of the Apache of the Chiricahua Nation, will perform alongside his sons, using native flutes and drums to tell the story of how the Apache came to the Americas.

The second event, scheduled for Feb. 19, will feature Charlie Clark Nissan of El Paso and the Field of Stars/Campo de Estrellas, an educational flag exhibit honoring community leaders organized by Mexican American Cultural Institute (MACI).

Guest speakers will include Hector Gonzales with the Lincoln Park Conservation Committee and a MACI member.

Additional Latino Literacy Nights are planned for Feb. 28 and March 7 at the school.
