Sgt. Roberto Ituarte Elementary School has been recognized with the 2024-2025 Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association (TEPSA) Student Leadership Award. It is one of 130 schools statewide recognized for its positive contributions to the community.
This prestigious award honors exceptional student leadership groups in grades PK-8 that have demonstrated remarkable dedication to their school communities through leadership and service.
Ituarte Principal Alicia Miranda said the school’s student council, which includes 18 dedicated fourth- and fifth-graders, works hard all year to serve their peers and make a difference at their school, affectionately known as the Castle.
“We are incredibly honored to receive the TEPSA Student Leadership Award. This recognition means so much to our Ituarte community because it celebrates the heart of who we are -- students who lead with respect, integrity, and excellence,” Miranda said.
She also thanked the school’s sponsor, fifth-grade teacher Jazmine Magdaleno, for her guidance and support.
“Her leadership has been instrumental in helping our students grow into the leaders they are today,” Miranda added.
Ituarte’s student leadership team will be recognized on the TEPSA website and will be featured in a video presentation during the TEPSA Summer Conference Keynote on June 11, 2025.
TEPSA offers resources and opportunities to help student councils develop leadership skills, engage in meaningful activities, and make a positive impact on their schools and communities.
Since 2018, the TEPSA Student Leadership Award has recognized outstanding student teams who demonstrate exceptional leadership, dedication to their schools, and a commitment to creating positive change in their communities. These remarkable students lead by example, inspire their peers, and leave a lasting impact wherever they go.
