The Socorro Independent School District's inaugural Recruitment & Enrollment Expo was a resounding success, attracting families from across El Paso to explore the district’s endless opportunities aimed at enhancing student achievement.

At the June 19 expo, parents and students learned about the academic, extracurricular, and real-world training programs designed to support students from PreK to 12th grade in achieving their educational goals.

Additionally, parents took advantage of SISD’s convenient onsite enrollment services to enroll their children in the district, setting them on the path to a brighter future. More than 100 families visited the enrollment services with some 40 new students enrolling in the district that evening at the expo.

After hearing positive feedback from friends, Adrian Velarde enrolled his daughter, Jazlynne Velarde, at Eastlake High School. Jazlynne, an incoming freshman, previously attended Canutillo Middle School.

“She likes to be in cheer and dance,” Adrian Velarde said. “She wants to try volleyball, so anything that she can try in this district, I want to support her 100%.”

Jazlynne Velarde was interested in the school’s cosmetology program, which prepares students for careers in cosmetology, including hair care and nail care. Students in the program can earn industry-recognized certifications.

“I think you can get successful in that and have a business doing that,” Jazlynne Velarde said.

Organized by SISD’s Elite Enrollment Committee, the expo aimed to increase enrollment by showcasing the various programs and resources available at the district’s 51 campuses, demonstrating why SISD is a top choice for families seeking quality education.

“Everybody's so happy,” said Amanda Martinez, coordinator for SISD’s Administrative Services Department, who helped coordinate the event. “We have music, we have food, we have games. You see the families interacting with our departments and with our campuses. I’m super excited!”

Kassandra Pino said the onsite enrollment services were convenient for enrolling her daughter in PreK 4. The district offers a free full-day Pre-K program for all 4-year-olds and a free half-day program for qualifying 3-year-old students. (Click here for information on SISD’s PreK programs.)

As an alumna of Eastlake High School, she was confident that her daughter would receive a good education from caring teachers.

“I need to cut the umbilical cord, let her spread her wings and learn about the world rather than just me keeping her home,” Pino said. “So, I'll let the experts teach her what she needs to learn.”

District teams and community partners joined school representatives at the expo to engage with families about their services. The lively atmosphere featured music from DJ Johnny Kage, a car show, food trucks, games, student performances, and raffle prizes, including scooters and televisions.

Angel Gael Gurrola recently moved to El Paso from Minnesota. He was excited to start 10th grade and play basketball at El Dorado High School this fall. The expo provided him and his mom with a sneak preview of the excellent services they can expect from SISD.

“I'm just excited, you know, going there with my cousins. They go to El Dorado. It’s pretty cool,” Gurrola said.

SISD is currently accepting registrations for the 2025-2026 school year for all new and returning students from PreK through 12th grade at www.sisd.net/enrollment.
