The Socorro Independent School District has received Outstanding status in the prestigious 2025 Award of Distinction Program from the Texas Educational Theatre Association (TxETA). The district was recognized for its unwavering dedication to elevating theater education and advocacy across its campuses and the broader community.
The Award of Distinction honors schools and districts across Texas that have made exceptional contributions to the theatrical arts. Socorro ISD distinguished itself for its exemplary commitment to achievement in student performance and theater instruction, the curation of resources supporting innovative curriculum and programming, diversity in representation, voices, and storytelling, and advocacy for the transformative power of theatre in education.
“We’re incredibly proud to receive the Outstanding status from the Texas Educational Theatre Association,” said Dr. Armando Martinez, SISD Fine Arts director. “In SISD, we believe the arts are essential for providing a well-rounded education, and we are dedicated to promoting excellence in theater education.”
Socorro ISD’s Outstanding tier recognition reflects its dedication to advancing the arts in education. The Award of Distinction is a tiered honor, with levels ranging from Recognized to Exemplary.
“This recognition reflects the talent of our students and the extreme dedication our theater educators have for providing these students with high quality theater arts instruction,” said Dr. Josey Pickett, SISD Fine Arts facilitator. “The SISD Fine Arts department is honored to serve such outstanding educators and students with a commitment to supply state-of-the art facilities, resources, professional development, and performance opportunities.”
This achievement reflects the ongoing passion and hard work of the theatre educators, students, and supporters who ensure that the performing arts remain a vital and thriving part of school culture.
TxETA aims to support, promote, and expand educational theater at all levels by providing educational opportunities, building a network of resources and support, and creating a forum for establishing standards, programs, and projects to celebrate the importance of theater.
