The Socorro Independent School District has improved its overall rating, increased the number of A-rated schools, earned the postsecondary distinction designation, and SISD students continue to outperform their peers in State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness and End-of-Course (STAAR/EOC) tests as demonstrated by the district’s spring 2025 scores.
Socorro ISD boosted its overall rating to 85, a B rating and an increase of 2 points from 2024. The district also increased the number of A-rated campuses from 12 to 18 this year and increased the percentage of A-or B-rated schools to 88 percent out of 49-rated campuses. As such, the district reduced the number of C-rated campuses and has no D- or F-rated campuses.
The district also earned the postsecondary distinction designation indicating that SISD students are prepared for success based on their outstanding academic performance in attainment of postsecondary readiness. It is the only distinction designation at the district level under the state accountability system and considers high academic success on STAAR assessments across all campus types, graduation rate, ACT/SAT participation and performance, and AP/IB examination participation.
“Socorro ISD students and teachers have not missed a beat in their academic focus, and I am extremely proud of our students’ outstanding performance on the 2025 spring STAAR/EOC assessments,” said SISD Interim Superintendent James P. Vasquez. “The improvements we have seen in our overall rating, postsecondary distinction, and A-rated campuses is proof of the incredible instruction, learning, talent and commitment in our district. I commend our hard-working educators and students who are certainly contributing to our next chapter of academic success.”
Socorro ISD also increased its number of campus distinctions from 2024. Based on the 2025 STAAR/EOC results, SISD schools earned nine more campus distinctions for a total of 162, indicating outstanding results in reading, English/language arts, math, science social studies, academic growth and closing achievement gaps.
In STAAR student performance data, the district also noted an increase in +2 percentage points at Approaches, +3 at Meets and +3 at Masters from 2024. The latest results also show SISD students leading the region in reading in grades 3 through 8, eighth-grade social studies, English II, U.S. history, and algebra I.
“This is a proud moment for our district,” Vasquez said. “These results reflect the dedication of our entire SISD community, including our Board of Trustees and community supporters such as parents, volunteers and Partners in Education. We are committed to continuing this momentum because the next chapter is ours to ensure all our students thrive and excel.”
