With every putt they sunk, golfers raised an impressive $120,660 for higher education scholarships at the Socorro Independent School District’s 18th Annual Golf Tournament on Oct. 3 at Butterfield Trail Golf Club.
Organized by the SISD Foundation Excellence in Education, this popular event helped unlock opportunities for students striving for academic success.
SISD Superintendent James Vasquez thanked the tournament sponsors for their support in making a positive impact on the futures of SISD students.
“We couldn't have this event without our sponsors,” Vasquez said. “Year after year, they support us, they support our students, they understand the mission.”
This year's Diamond Sponsor was AETNA, which donated $25,000. Platinum Sponsors included Speaking Rock Entertainment Center, ACO Remodeling and Construction, Inc., and Banes General Contractors, with each contributing $10,000. Twenty-nine teams and 116 players participated in this year’s golf tournament, with their support helping to shape brighter futures for SISD students.
Since 2005, the SISD Foundation has provided students with post-secondary education scholarships by raising funds through the annual golf tournament and employee and community contributions. Five scholarships are given to students at each of the district’s six comprehensive high schools. One scholarship is awarded to Mission Early College High School and another to Options High school.
In May, over 30 graduating seniors from the Class of 2025 were awarded scholarships. To date, SISD students have received more than $1.25 million in scholarships.
“We’re just super excited and so appreciative of all of our vendors who are here every single year, looking forward to this event,” said SISD Foundation President Esther McCarthy. “They are so loyal to us and to the students of our district.”
SISD Class of 2026 students can visit sisdfoundation.org/apply-now/ to review scholarship eligibility and submit applications by Feb. 28, 2026.
