This fall, three student-athletes from the Socorro Independent School District took a significant step toward their futures by signing letters of intent to continue their academic and athletic careers at NCAA Division I schools.
El Dorado High School seniors Ryan Estrada and JaDarius Sanders signed their letters of intent with the universities of their choice on Dec. 3.
Estrada, a running back, signed his letter of intent with the University of Minnesota, where he plans to study business administration. In 2024, Estrada was named 1-5A Overall MVP, First Team All-City running back, First Team All-Region running back and Second Team All-State running back. His 2025 accolades include 1-5A Overall MVP and city’s All-Time leading rusher.
“I am proud of my athletic career as an Aztec, and I am looking forward to being part of Gopher Nation. Go, Gophers!” Estrada said.
Sanders, a wide receiver and kick returner, signed his letter of intent with New Mexico State University, where he plans to study business administration. In 2024, Sanders was named Kick Returner Of The Year, First Team All-District wide receiver and All-City Team wide receiver. His 2025 accolades include First Team All-District wide receiver, Senior All-Star Showcase wide receiver and number one draft pick for Blue Thunder.
“I am beyond thankful to be in this position. I want to thank all of the El Dorado community and my family for helping me come this far. Go, Aggies!” Sanders said.

On Dec. 12, Melina Gonzalez, a senior at Pebble Hills High School, signed her letter of intent to continue her athletic and academic pursuits at the collegiate level.
Gonzalez, a volleyball outside hitter, signed her letter of intent with Southern Louisiana University, where she plans to study business marketing. Gonzalez played for the Spartans from ninth to 11th grade and holds the school records for single-season kills, overall kills, and overall aces. Currently, she maintains a 3.9 GPA and has earned the Academic All-District award for three consecutive years.
“I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity to receive a full-ride scholarship covering four years and a semester of college,” Gonzalez said. “Signing at my school with my family and close friends there to show me their constant support and love is the biggest blessing, as well as the amazing community here at Pebble Hills that helped me set this up to make my experience as special as possible.”
