Eastlake High School introduced Justin Avalos as the new boys’ basketball coach for the Falcons during a special announcement on May 11 at the school.

Avalos said his goal was to enhance the Falcons' established 6A program.

“My plans here are to keep going, to keep building on to what they already have. If you ask anybody, they're all going to say it's the most talented team in the city. So, my goal is to just put them in a spot to be successful,” Avalos said.

Avalos previously served as the head basketball coach at El Dorado High School, where he led the Aztecs to two bi-district championships. He graduated from Western Colorado University with a degree in kinesiology and played professionally for 10 years in Mexico before attending the University of Texas at El Paso to obtain his teaching degree.

In addition to coaching a winning team, Avalos is dedicated to supporting his players every step of the way, helping them reach their full potential both on the court and in life.

“I want them to know that I'm not only a coach, I'm somebody who's going to support you fully, not only now, but for the rest of your life,” Avalos said.

Caleb Gutierrez, a rising senior who was named District 1-6A Defensive Player of the Year, said he was excited to welcome Avalos to the team.

“I know that Coach Avalos is here to make the program a great place. What we already started, he's going to continue. He’s not going to stop,” Gutierrez said.
