The Socorro Independent School District has once again demonstrated its commitment to academic excellence, increasing its overall accountability rating, maintaining the number of A-rated campuses, and continuing to post gains in every subject area measured by the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness and End-of-Course (STAAR/EOC) exams. In addition, Socorro ISD once again leads the region in most tested subjects and is anticipated to remain the highest-scoring district in the region, based on the latest STAAR/EOC scores.
Socorro ISD increased its overall accountability score from 86 to 87, maintaining a strong B rating. The district's continued academic growth was reflected across all tested subjects, with students showing improvement over the previous year and campuses earning recognition for outstanding achievement and progress.
The district's success was evident across its campuses, with 18 schools earning an A rating, 88 percent of schools earning an A or B rating and no campuses receiving a D or F rating. Socorro ISD schools also earned a combined 168 distinctions, an increase from the previous year, recognizing exceptional performance in academic achievement, academic growth, closing achievement gaps, and postsecondary readiness.
“These results are a testament to the extraordinary commitment of our teachers, campus leaders, support staff, students, and families,” said Socorro ISD Superintendent James Vasquez. “Increasing our district score, earning 168 campus distinctions, and continuing to improve in every subject area demonstrates what can be accomplished when an entire community works together with a relentless focus on student success. I am incredibly proud of Team SISD and grateful for the dedication that made these achievements possible.”
Additionally, the district earned the prestigious Postsecondary Readiness distinction, the Texas accountability system's only district-level distinction, and remains the largest district in Texas to earn the distinction. The designation recognizes districts that demonstrate outstanding student success in areas including STAAR performance, graduation rates, college readiness indicators, and advanced academic participation.
Ten Socorro ISD campuses achieved every distinction available to them, a remarkable accomplishment that reflects sustained excellence across multiple academic indicators. Those campuses are Eastlake Middle School, Col. John O. Ensor Middle School, Spec. Rafael Hernando Middle School, William D. Slider Middle School, John Drugan School, Cactus Trails Elementary, Campestre Elementary, Horizon Heights Elementary, Loma Verde Elementary, and SGT. Roberto Ituarte Elementary.
Socorro ISD also continues to lead the region in key academic areas. Notably, the district has the five highest-scoring middle schools in Algebra I recognized through CREEED’s Aim High program for the fourth year in a row. This underscores the strength of Socoro ISD’s instructional programs and its commitment to preparing students for advanced coursework and future success.
In STAAR student performance data, the district noted an increase in +1 percentage points at Approaches, +3 at Meets and +2 at Masters from 2025. The latest results also show SISD students leading the region in reading in grades 3 through 8, eighth-grade social studies, English I, U.S. history, and algebra I.

The latest accountability results further affirm the district's commitment to providing high-quality educational opportunities and building student achievement from early childhood through graduation.
